Welcome to a Weekend of Spiritual Wellness

The Thanksgiving Weekend of Spiritual Wellness was held at the Wyndham Lisle Hotel, in Lisle. Focused on activities to nurture the body, mind, and spirit, the event drew hundreds of new visitors from Chicagoland as well as visitors from outside the country. The day began with Hatha yoga, followed by concurrent talks by international speakers. Topics ranged from spiritual wellness and health to the benefits of meditation and the vegetarian diet. In the afternoon, a multi-disciplinary panel detailed the value of meditation in diverse professional and personal settings. Cooking demos were also held, drawing large crowds interested in learning about the vegetarian diet. A meditation room attracted visitors who wanted to learn the basic techniques of Jyoti meditation. Several activities kept young children engaged.

On Saturday night, when Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj met everyone, he spoke about a key virtue on the spiritual path — loving kindness. Drawing from examples of various faiths, he outlined the importance of recognizing the Lord in all of God’s creation, as this will help us be kind and loving toward all. He said the spiritual journey is one of love, governed by the law of the universe — a law of love originating from God. As we sit in silence daily, this love begins to penetrate our very being. Soon, a transformation occurs within us, as the divine revelations unfold. This transformation through meditation is the key to fulfilling the true purpose of our existence.

The highlight of the weekend was a highly publicized keynote address by H. H Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj on Sunday. Welcoming the multi-cultural, multi-faith audience, he explained the need to nurture our spirit while also focusing on mental, emotional, and physical health. Spiritual wellness, he said, is the foundation for total wellbeing. Diving further into the true nature of our spiritual being, he emphasized the need for us to realize that at our core we are soul, a part of God, and that the human body houses our soul. When we realize this, we will spend more time feeding our soul and begin to search for God within ourselves by meditating on the inner Light and Sound. Meditation does not rid us of our problems, he said. However, by nurturing our soul, meditation helps us attain a higher angle of vision so that we can maintain our equipoise throughout the storms of life.

This entire weekend was FREE of charge.
